S.10 E.02 – Jim Hodge of Mastiff

interview under fire podcast s10 e02 jim hodge of mastiff

Mastiff are a UK based blackened sludge outfit who bring the pain. And by pain,we mean the monstrous and crushing riffs, earth-shattering vocals, and an atmospheric background which are all brought to the surface on their latest offering, “Leave Me The Ashes Of The Earth.” Vocalist Jim Hodge joins us today to talk about the origins of the band and the production behind their 3rd album. Hailing from the city of Kingston Upon Hull, Jim describes the city’s history which is one of many elements that helped pave the way with the writing process. It’s not a popular city by any stretch, but it’s something that served as a catalyst that he and his bandmates were able to translate from pen to paper. Mastiff have added in the anger and passion that any human can have, and this record is sure to keep the pulse going in any setting. It’s a lot to dissect, and the best part is that this particular interview was done within one of the more serene settings any of our guests could have, as Jim comfortability rests (and deservedly so) in a hot tub under the stars in the nighttime sky while diving into the darkness of the new music. A fun and unique episode here; “Leave Me The Ashes Of The Earth” is a record that Jim and his crew are immensely proud of. It’s time to bring the pain, so tune in now and be sure to buy the new album, out now worldwide via EOne.
