interview under fire podcast s09 e19 nicolas dumont of the ugly kings

These are strange, strange times. We welcome the talented bassist Nicolas Dumont from the Australian rock quartet, The Ugly Kings. The new sophomore album “Strange, Strange Times” could not have a more fitting title. Within the last 18 months or so, it’s been the state of the world we all have been living in – and now with it seemingly having a light at the end of this long tunnel, we chat with Nicolas about the outlook for a musician like himself going forward. In addition, Nicolas takes us through his personal beginnings with The Ugly Kings and his bandmates and how this new album has surpassed his own expectations. The album is charting immensely well in Australia; “Strange, Strange Times” is an album filled with music elements of blackened/power blues, alternative rock, and psychedelic punk. Add in the vocal influences of Jim Morrison, and the dynamic sounds of Queens Of The Stone Age, and you have quite the record filled with every homage the band can pay respect to. At the same time, The Ugly Kings have their own sound they are currently cementing into the rock and roll world. And finally, Nicolas talks about other parts of his life that feed into the creativity of his music, and that is being a teacher and the importance of playing a role in the younger generation. Tune in to this episode now and be sure to buy and stream “Strange, Strange Times” from the rock band of Down Under, The Ugly Kings. Album is out now worldwide via Napalm Records.
