IUF sat down with violinist/vocalist Tim Charles of Melbourne’s progressive metal force Ne Obliviscaris during their Dallas tour stop at the Echo Lounge for an in-person conversation about the band’s evolution and his own musical journey. We dug into their ambitious North American run performing “Exul” and “Citadel” in full—two albums that Tim sees as very different reflections of the band’s identity. We also compared life in Texas and Australia (yes, including Buc-ee’s), and talked about his friend Ignacia Fernández, whose Miss World Chile spotlight included performing a death metal track from her own band—a moment Tim sees as an important step in bringing metal into spaces that rarely embrace it.
